Why Take Part in Plastic Free Lunch Day?
School cafeterias serve over 7 billion meals a year. Most of these meals are served on plastic, making the industry a bug contributor to plastic waster. By participating in actions like plastic-free lunch day, we can significantly reduce plastic pollution.
The History of Plastic Free Lunch Day
Plastic Free Lunch Day was started by fifty-six 5th graders in Red Hook, Brooklyn. You can learn more about their story in the award-winning documentary "Microplastic Madness." The movie and corresponding toolkit link youth activism to plastic pollution, environmental justice and the climate crisis.
